Fust has chosen the book 'Slow Fade' by Rudolph Wurlitzer

to pair with their new LP 'Big Ugly'.

From Fust: "  “I read and reread and reread Rudy Wurlitzer’s 1984 novel Slow Fade over the last few years. Wurlitzer, son of the jukebox king, writes about the impossibility of family in the late twentieth century. It’s about a lost daughter in India, a son who goes to find her at the expense of his marriage, and a famous film director father (a Sam Peckinpah type) so unable to engage his family on this level that he hires his son to write a screenplay to be his last film about the son’s experience searching for her. It’s angry and mystical and ugly. The passages in India are sublime and so burned-out. The passages in the southwest are hateful, with mercenary and ex-roadie A.D. trying to make money and turn this whole family drama into a money maker. It's a western of sorts, kind of like Walker, the 1987 film Wurlitzer made with Alex Cox. This was supposed to be a film too: a film that didn’t get made about a film that couldn’t be made. But in this story, no great final work can undo the damages done; the attempt at making it just accrues more. Big Ugly aspires to the regional, American flair here, and to the raucous cast of characters here that seem to interrupt and also move the whole thing along."
